Lead is a heavy metal with a relative density or specific gravity of 11.4 at 16 °C, silver-coloured with a bluish hue, which is tarnished to acquire a dull grey. It is flexible, inelastic and melts easily. Fusion occurs at 327.4 °C and it boils at 1725 °C. Its normal chemical valencies are 2 and 4. It is relatively resistant to attack by sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid, although it dissolves slowly in nitric acid and in the presence of nitrogenous bases. Lead is amphoteric, as it forms lead salts of acids, in addition to metallic salts of plumbic acid. It is capable of forming large number of salts, oxides, and organometallic compounds.
Clerins is a distributor of lead ingots and lead sheet.
